Dwight Robert Davis, Jr.

Dwight R. Bob Davis, Jr., Savannah, GA died Wednesday, September 2, 2009 of complications due to cancer.
Born May 10, 1918 in Johnstown, PA, son of the late Dwight R. Davis, Sr. and Edith A. Ferguson Davis. Mr. Davis was a graduate of Camp Hill High School, Johnstown, PA and an alumni of the University of Louisville. He served in the Army during WWII in the European Theatre with the 740th Tank Batallion receiving the American Defense Medal, the European African Middle East Campaign Medal, with three campaign stars, as well as French and Belgium Croix De Guerre Medals. Returning from the service, Mr. Davis devoted his service further by working with the Veteran's Administration in Louisville, KY and Chicago, IL retiring after 41 years. He was a charter life member of the WWII Memorial and a Life Member of Chapter 249 National Association of Federal Retired Employees and a life member of Disabled American Veterans Association Chapter 8.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and an ordained Elder.

He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Jean E. Chandler Davis. They were married April 27, 1944. Also surviving are his sons, Stephen B. Betty Davis, Hudson, FL; Jon A. Charlene Davis, Edwards, IL; Robert B. Davis, Brookfield, IL; daughters, Jill E. Dan Mueller, Darien, IL; Donna Major Jay Hansen, Bangor, WI; brothers, Ronald F. Iris Davis, San Antonio, TX; and Lynn W. Hazel Davis, Savannah, GA.
Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, 2 great-grandchildren expected, and numerous nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Earl B. Davis, and sister, Francis Louise Wendel.

Memorial Service and internment of ashes will be held Saturday, September 5, 2009, at 12:00 p.m. with military honors at First Presbyterian Church, 520 Washington Ave. Savannah, GA, with a reception following at the church.
